| WD My Passport X 2TB and SanDisk Extreme 500 USB 3.0 drives There are two types of people in this world- one who uses a USB 3.0 drive and one who uses a portable SSD USB 3.0 drive like SanDisk Extreme 500 Portable SSD USB 3.0 drive. Sure, both are USB 3.0 storage devices and you do get a high-performance USB 3.0 drives like the Kingston HyperX USB 64GB 3.0 that I tested a long time ago- and still a very good performer. The main difference is that Portable SSD drives use the same controller and NAND that you'll find typically in an SSD. Due to more storage capacity per drive, we've seen many SSDs which have half the size of the PCB compared to its SSD casing- or even 1/4th the size. Naturally, it would be a matter of time we would see similar implementation for a portable drive. So it will be interesting to see how a native USB 3.0 drive like an SSD class controller and NAND-like in Extreme 500 performs. http://www.hardwarebbq.com/sandisk-e...-drive-review/ |
