Trendforce names Nvidia and AMD top IC growers

Beating Qualcomm, Broadcom and MediaTek

TrendForce has named AMD and Nvidia as the most substantial growing IC design companies beating competition from Qualcomm, Broadcom and MediaTek.

While Qualcomm and Broadcom took the first and second spots when it came to the Top 10 IC design companies in 2020, third place Nvidia was the leader in year-on-year growth. Team green generated $15.4 billion last year, 52.2 percent increase compared to 2019. The company's acquisition of Mellanox boosted its data centre solutions, which generated nearly $6.4 billion in revenue.

AMD was fifth, and the company's $9.7 billion of revenue marked a 45 percent jump over the previous year. Its 7nm CPUs for both consumers and enterprise use continued to erode Intel's market share.

To be fair, that is not difficult when demand is surpassing supply. Getting your paws on the product is proving difficult throughout the pandemic. Cards like Nvidia's RTX 3080 or AMD's RX 6800 XT are rarer than a white-rumped vulture. Then you have to factor in a DRAM shortage.
