Nvidia Shield gets Android 9 update

Experience upgrade 8.0 for 2015 and 2017 consoles

Nvidia original Shield TV, as well as the updated Shield TV 2017, have got an Experience upgrade 8.0 including Android 9.0 Pie.

The OTA update might be the oldest Android device that got the Android 9 update and will keep Nvidia’s early console adopters quite happy about their purchase.

HDR TV owners can explore a new feature called Match Content Color Space and automatically switch display mode to deliver more accurate colors whether they are browsing the home screen or watching a favorite movie in HDR.

The update brings a new Hulu app, including live TV 60 top channels, including local sports and news.

There's Netflix update enabled sound quality in the form of Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound for audio up to 640 kbps. Prime Video recently received a 4K cast upgrade, and there are a few new updated apps including Bravo and E!, with FandangoNOW.

The update brings SiNKR2 puzzle game as well as access to 500 games via Geforce Now. There are some rumors about the update to the Shield console that showed up at FCC as Nvidia Corporation SHIELD Android TV Game Console P3430, and we expect that an update might launch this year. The first was released in 2015, 2017 and the new one might come in 2019 following the two-year launch cadence.
