Default Need for Speed: Shift - Benchmarked

Drivers or not, across NFS Shift is not greedy and remains very playable with details pushed up even on a small card like the Radeon HD 4670 for just that one is confined to 1680 (or less) without activate filters. It must be said that the NFS as many games currently is developed from the outset with the aim to be multi platform. The next gen consoles are not as efficient as today's PCs are easier to understand why much of the recent PC games will run without trouble on some old maps of more than one year ..

this is pretty much what we'll see in the coming years; the only performance limiting factor on PCs is resolution and AA/AF settings; if we were to run at console resolutions (1280x720) even a HD 4670 will churn out 60fps. And the game engines won't evolve much as they are developed for CONSOLES first, converted for PCs afterwards. This means: lower resolution textures, lesser details, less view distance, less everything.

On PCs we are still waiting for 30" to become affordable to justify looking at 2560x1600 charts as a performance measurement stick; granted that it would be wiser to invest in 3x24" LCD and set resolution at 5760x3600

reality is though that the game won't look necessarily better at a higher resolution.. Fifa 10 on PC for example is a good example of the low quality
