Default Microsoft pays Burst.com settlement

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Microsoft Corp. and Burst.com Inc. announced late Friday that they have settled Burst's lawsuit against Microsoft and have entered into a patent-licensing agreement.

Burst's (BRST) lawsuit, filed in June 2002, asserted patent, trade-secret and antitrust claims.

Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft (MSFT) agreed to pay $60 million to Burst for settlement of all the claims and for a nonexclusive license to Burst's patent portfolio.

Tom Burt, Microsoft corporate vice president and deputy general counsel, said, "Securing a license to the Burst patent portfolio through this settlement allows us to focus on the continued development and deployment of Windows Media technologies to deliver the ultimate media experience to our partners and customers."
