Default Intel taped out, booted discrete GPU

Codename DG1 is alive CEO confirms

Intel’s CEO Bob Swan has provided a financial community an update on good Q3 2019 financial performance and has mentioned a few recent milestones. In this quarter, Q3 19, Intel achieved power on exit for the first discrete GPU.

“This quarter, we’ve achieved power on exit for our first discrete GPU, DG1, an important milestone” – Bob Swan, Intel CEO

When Bob said this quarter, he means Q3; this is when the boot-up and power on happened.

Additionally, Bob mentioned: In Q3, we also shipped our first 10-nanometer Agilex FPGAs. And in 2020, we'll continue to expand our 10-nanometer portfolio with exciting new products including an AI Inference Accelerator, 5G base station SOC, Xeon CPUs for server storage, and network and a discrete GPU. This quarter, we've achieved power on exit for our first discrete GPU, DG1, an important milestone.

There are two confirmations here, one that the GPU that Bob is talking about is 10nm, and before you went for the 7nm is better than 10 argument arguably some of the key followers of foundry business have stated that Intel’s 10nm is close to TSMC’s 7nm in both vectors. No, we are not saying that Intel’s 10nm is better than competitors 7nm GPU, as we don’t know what Intel’s GPU is right now.
