| Intel's 9th gen Core K-series CPUs will have soldered IHS At least some of them According to a set of fresh Intel slides that have shown up online, it appears that Intel will finally switch to soldered IHS on its upcoming 9th generation Coffee Lake-S Refresh CPUs. Coming in October, the Core i9-9900K, Core i7-9700K, and the Core i5-9600K should keep Intel in the desktop CPU market, especially since the Core i9-9900K is an 8-core/16-thread SKU with a base clock of 3.6GHz and Turbo clock of up to 5.0GHz. As detailed earlier and to much surprise, the Core i7-9700K will lack Hyper-Threading support. What is important about these fresh slides leaked by Videocardz.com, is that Intel will finally switch to STIM (Solder Thermal Interface Material). The slide refers only to 8-core parts, so it is not clear if this includes the Core i5-9600K, a 6-core SKU in the lineup. This means that overclockers and enthusiasts will no longer have to de-lid their CPU in order to get the best possible overclock. Unfortunately, the pricing and performance were not mentioned in these slides, as this set of information will be available in September. https://fudzilla.com/news/pc-hardwar...e-soldered-ihs |
