Intel Comet Lake or AMD Ryzen mobile CPUs

Earlier this week, Huawei has announced its new MateBook D-series laptops, which will be available in 14-inch and 15.6-inch versions, the D14 and the D15, as well as a choice between Intel Comet Lake or AMD Ryzen CPUs, and Geforce MX 250 mobile GPU or Vega graphics inside Ryzen CPU.

Both the MateBook D14 and the MateBook D15 share the same sleek design, with aluminum chassis and tight bezels. The difference is in the size of the screen, and thus the size of the laptop itself, and some other minor details.

The smaller, MateBook D14, measures at 322.5x214.8x15.9mm and weighs 1.38kg, which is not half bad for a 14-incher. It comes with a 14-inch IPS FHD (1920x1080) screen, with mediocre brightness of 250 nits and 800:1 contrast ratio. The MateBook D15 is not far behind as it measures at 357.8x229.9x16.9mm and weighs 1.62kg. It comes with the same panel, but in a 15.6-inch size, which means it will have a slightly lower pixel density.

There is a choice between Intel's Core i5-10210U or Core i7-10510U and AMD Ryzen 5 3500U. While it is nice to finally see AMD mobile Ryzen CPUs in some laptops, it is quite surprising that Huawei did not offer the Ryzen 7 3700U or any other mobile Ryzen CPU as an option, at least in the 15.6-inch version. Both options can be paired up with 8GB or 16GB of RAM and either 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD (for the D15) or 512GB SSD (for the smaller D14) storage options.

Intel CPUs come paired up with Nvidia Geforce MX 250, a Pascal-based mobile GPU with 384 CUDA cores, which is usually paired up with 4GB of GDDR5 VRAM. The Ryzen 5 3500U option uses Radeon Vega 8 Graphics inside the CPU, featuring 8 CUs for a total of 512 Stream Processors.
