| Hardware.Info tests lifespan of Samsung SSD 840 250GB TLC SSD Samsung’s Series 840 SSDs offer great value for your money, but they use the relatively new TLC type of memory chips. These have a shorter lifespan than the more commonly used MLC chips, but how much shorter exactly? Samsung of course has full confidence in the longevity of their Series 840 SSDs, but there really is only one way to find out just how long buyers can expect a TLC-equipped drive to function: by testing the hell out of it. That is exactly what Hardware.Info will be doing for the next weeks or months: however long it takes, we will find out how many times you can write to an SSD 840 before it calls it a day. We took two Samsung SSD 840 250GB SSDs, filled them to half capacity in order to mimick real-life use, and started writing to them last night. This writing test will continue without interruption until both SSDs fail. Anyone can check out the progress using our live video stream to see how the drives are holding up http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/4178...-250gb-tlc-ssd |
