| GPU software speeds up embedded graphics Israeli outfit LucidLogix has released some GPU virtualisation software which can be installed under the bonnet of embedded systems to improve their performance. Lucid has been showing off the software at CES and thinks it could find its way into mobile devices including smartphones, tablets, Ultrabooks and notebooks. Codenamed "XLR8", the software improves the response performance, visual quality and battery efficiency of mobile gadgets. It is based around its Lucids Virtu MVP software but applied to single, embedded GPUs. Offir Remez, president of Lucid said that most PC graphics challenges are magnified when it comes to embedded GPUs. Things like visual tearing and artifacts, pipeline inefficiencies and power management become really tricky in embedded systems. As a result PC games have limited playability on those platforms. He thinks that the applications for XLR8 software could be endless, basically if it's got a GPU, it can improve it, he claimed. The software works by increasing CPU frame generation while minimising redundant GPU rendering tasks, providing maximum input responsiveness. Remez claims that he can squeeze 200 percent improvement from a mainstream GPU. Somehow it does this without harming the battery. The core technology behind XLR8 uses unique multi-threading, task detection and redundant task removal processes. Remez claimed that the XLR8 is currently in the labs of "major partners" for compatibility testing. http://news.techeye.net/software/gpu...edded-graphics |
