Some overly optimistic reports are coming from Samsung’s native Korea claim that the foldable Galaxy X will arrive in late February at the 2019 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Another report claims that the Galaxy S10 comes a month before January but we take both reports with a grain of salt. Galaxy S9 was announced at the Mobile World Congress 2018 Unpacked event on February 25, 2018.

This is the earliest that Samsung introduced the Galaxy S line and the fact that it started shipping in early March was a huge achievement. The South Korean thebell claims that foldable display production might be ready for November. This is enough time to have the device ready for a late February announcement and start shipping it shortly afterwards.

Some 13 months ago Fudzilla said that foldable is not happning until 2019 - guess we were right.

We would suspect that on the hardware side, both S10 and Galaxy X might share the same SoC mix and similar RAM and storage options. In reality, there are only two options - Exynos 9820 7nm and a Snapdragon 855 based phone for some CDMA big markets including USA and China.

Don’t forget that both of these phones will support 5G in both Exynos and Snapdragon variations and this might give Samsung some much needed advocation against Apple. If Samsung makes foldables early next year, we expect other manufacturers to have their variations later in 2019 and ship in massive volume into early 2020.

Just remember the notch, it started with the Essential phone in summer 2017, became really big with the iPhone in September 2017 and now, in early 2018, most phones have a notch. We expect the same dynamics for foldable displays.
