Five Things You Didn't Know About Dual-Core Processors

Nearly three years after AMD announced its Opteron, 48 percent of PC users are clueless about just what a dual core processor is, a recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive found. (In the business world, of course, it's a different story. It's widely acknowledged that datacenter managers and CIOs are well aware of the power dual core computing can bring to the enterprise.)

In the survey, which focused on home users, 42 percent of personal computer owners said they are somewhat familiar with dual-core and an early adopter elite of 10 percent swear they know it cold. Of that 52 percent with either some or a lot of awareness of the technology, only 12 percent already have a dual core system.
