Default DRAM and NAND flash to grow 30 percent

Digitimes Research predicts it will slow next year

This year will be the swan song of global DRAM and NAND flash sector growth, Digitimes Research warned.

DRAM and NAND flash makers are expected to see their combined output value grow less than 30 percent in 2018 and then see their numbers slump to a single-digit rate in 2019.

The output value of the global DRAM sector will reach a record high of nearly US$100 billion in 2018, thanks to server demand.

Digitimes Research bean counters said that server shipments worldwide were forecast to climb over 15 percent in 2018, while memory content per box for servers continued to rise.

SK Hynix is already leaning on server DRAM products. The segment grew as a proportion of the company's total DRAM sales to 38.8 percent in the second quarter of 2018, up from 24 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Digitimes Research reported that Micron saw its server DRAM sales account for 29 percent of its overall DRAM revenues in the first half of 2018 compared with 22 percent in 2013.
