Default Dell hires HP exec to save its bottom line

Tinman Michael Dell has hired a former HP networking chief to help save the company's bottom line.

Dell's bottom line has been suffering lately as the PC market has dried up due to the economic crisis. He hoped that by pushing into the global technology services market like IBM did, all will be well.

Marius Haas worked for HP until 2011 when it hired Leo Apotheker as CEO. Apotheker wanted to turn the maker of expensive printer ink into SAP and dump its hardware business.

Haas has been working as an industry adviser with private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts ever since.

According to Reuters' sources at Dell, Haas will replace Brad Anderson, Dell's president of enterprise solutions. It is not clear what will happen to Anderson, he is another HP refugee who joined Dell in 2005.

Haas was the HP's networking division senior vice president for two years. Before that he spent five years as HP's chief strategy officer and head of mergers and acquisitions.

Dell was once the world's top PC maker and a mainstay of business-school case studies, however it has been losing market share and has problems dealing with cheaper PC makers like Acer and Lenovo.

Recently the company had announced that it will cut $2 billion in costs over the next three years, primarily from the supply chain and sales group, as it sharpens its focus on the technology needs of corporations.
