| Chipzilla drops price on high end chip Feeling the pain Chipzilla looks to be feeling the pain of competition at last and started to drop some of its prices. According to Tom’s Hardware, Intel releasing a chip lower than its recommended price is as likely as hell freezing over, the British government solving Brexit or a Republican born-again politician having a healthy relationship with a woman. All bets are now off after the Intel Core i7-8700K has gone on sale for $344.99 on Newegg's eBay Store. The Intel Core i7-8700K was Intel's last-generation flagship processor, but it is still a high end chip even by today's standards and will probably continue to be one for a few years to come. It has six cores, 12 threads and 12MB of cache, the Core i7-8700K is built to handle simple tasks to heavy workloads. The chip comes with a 3.7 GHz base clock and 4.7 GHz boost clock. As denoted by the "K" suffix, the octa-core part features an unlocked multiplier in case you feel like overclocking the processor to maximize the performance of your investment. With the emergence of 32GB DDR4 modules, the Core i7-8700K can support up to 128GB of memory with speeds that escalate to 2,666 MHz and higher. The processor comes with integrated graphics (Intel UHD Graphics 630), so you don't have to necessarily invest in a discrete graphics card if you're not a gamer. All it lacks is a stock cooler but you can pick up something which will do that job for $19.49. The fact that the chip is available at that price is a sign that AMD is doing well. Its Ryzen chips have revitalized the company, bringing it back from the brink of bankruptcy and are starting to chew away market share from Intel in the desktop PC and laptop markets. This is even before AMD’s next-gen 7nm EPYC Rome parts hit the shops. https://fudzilla.com/news/pc-hardwar...-high-end-chip |
