Default Asus announces ZenBook Pro 15 with Core i9 CPU

15.6-inch 4K screen with Nvidia GTX 1050 GPU

Asus has rather silently announced a new version of its ZenBook Pro 15 notebook, the 15.6-inch screen UX550GD, which comes with a choice of Intel's Core i9-8950HK CPU and Nvidia GTX 1050 GPU.

The Asus ZenBook Pro 15 UX550GD is not a single SKU so there will be plenty of different combinations of hardware, including a wide choice of CPUs with the Core i5-8300H (hexa-core 2.3GHz), Core i7-8750H (hexa-core 2.2GHz) or the fabled Core i9-8950HK (hexa-core 2.9GHz) CPU and an Nvidia GTX 1050 GPU with 4GB of GDDR5 memory as a standard choice.

There will also be a choice between either a 15.6-inch FHD 1920x1080 screen with an optional touchscreen or a 15.6-inch 4K/UHD 3840x2160 touchscreen, both coming with a 7.3mm bezel for 83 percent screen-to-body ratio.

The rest of the specification includes 8GB or 16GB of DDR4-2400 memory, 512GB or 1TB of PCIe SSD storage or 256GB or 512GB of SATA3 SSD storage, two USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C and two USB 3.1 Type-A ports, HDMI output, full size backlit keyboard, glass-covered touchpad with optional integrated fingerprint sensor supporting Windows Hello, Harman-Kardon certified Asus SonicMaster stereo audio with array microphone, VGA webcam, dual-band 802.11ac WiFi with Bluetooth 5.0, while Ethernet connectivity is enabled with optional USB to LAN port dongle.

Using premium materials like a solid aluminum unibody, the Asus ZenBook Pro 15 UX550GD measures 36.5x25.1x1.89cm and weighs 1.86kg, which is impressive considering it comes with a 71Wh 8-cell battery capable of keeping it alive for up to 9 hours.

Unfortunately, Asus' product page or the press release do not reveal any details regarding the price or the availability date so we will have to wait for it to become available on retail/e-tail shelves. Of course, we would have liked a wider choice of GPUs as the GTX 1050 will have a hard time coping with anything other than casual gaming.
