| Apple users have to pay more for hotels Apple users who want cheap accommodation might want to search for it from a Windows machine. Orbitz, a site which makes a living helping people to people find hotels, has discovered that Apple users spend 30 per cent more than normal people. So it is now detecting if the visitor to their site is using an Apple and showing the more expensive places. According to the Wall Street Journal, Orbitz is experimenting with showing different hotel offers to Mac and PC visitors, but said the company isn't showing the same room to different users at different prices. Users can opt to rank results by price, but the default settings will be different. Part of the problem is that Apple users tend to have more money than sense and are 40 percent more likely to book a four or five-star hotel than PC users. When Mac and PC users book the same hotel, Mac users tend to stay in more expensive rooms, the Journal reported. The logic is that if you are prepared to waste more cash on a bog standard PC just because it has an Apple logo on it, you are going to spend an extra $100 to get a jacuzzi in your room. We would have thought it would also have made sense to test the age of your computer and if you are still using old versions of Windows. There is no point showing you the penthouse at the Ritz if you are running a 386 with Windows 95. In fact it is probably better that you are shown the broom closet. http://news.techeye.net/internet/app...ore-for-hotels |
