| Apple and Intel fight holy war over fired TI engineers There is an unholy war going on in the holy land over who has the right to headhunt a bunch of out-of-work Texas Instruments engineers. Apple and Intel both want the engineers to stop collecting their dole money and join them. The 250 employees from Texas Instruments' Ra'anana development centre were made redundant in the company's latest wave of cost cutting. The engineers were mainly working on TI's OMAP and radio chips and so have exactly the skills that Apple is after. Apple wants to open a new R&D centre in Ra'anana. Everyone knows that Intel was given the region by God during a one-to-one session with a burning bush. Intel worships a jealous God. So when Chipzilla heard that this upstart cult, focused on the worship of Steve Jobs, wanted to move into their promised land they decided to try and hire the engineers before Apple could get them. It wanted to put them to work in Intel's R&D centres in Haifa, Jerusalem, Petah-Tkva and Kiryat Gat. According to David Farrell, Intel is offering "healthy compensation packages" to those who come to work for them instead of going to Apple. Apple is arranging a special interview day specifically for Texas Instruments employees. Apple fanboys will line the street cheering as an effigy of Steve Jobs leads the Texas Instruments engineers into a secret compound where they will never be seen or heard of again. Actually, we made that bit up. Apple's Research and Development centre will open at the end of 2013 if it can get the staff. http://news.techeye.net/chips/apple-...d-ti-engineers |
