| Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs Dies at 56 Apple announced Wednesday that former Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs has died at the age of 56 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. In 2004, he beat back a rare and less aggressive type of pancreatic cancer, known as islet cell neuroendocrine tumor, but in 2009 he was forced to get a liver transplant. After several years of failing health, Jobs announced on Aug. 24, 2011 that he was stepping down as Apple's chief executive. "I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know," Jobs wrote in his letter of resignation. Apple announced the death of Jobs -- whose legacy includes the Apple II, Macintosh, iMac, iPod, iPhone and iPad. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/n...,7477308.story
