| Android Smartphone Vendors Turn to In-Display Fingerprint Scanners While Android vendors were initially enamored with the idea of adopting iPhone's facial recognition technology, they are dialing their plans back due to high component costs and potential patent infringement. Instead, the next round of premium phones will include the arguably more practical fingerprint scanner, the newest of which are embedded into the screen. Supply chain sources said that the unit cost for 3D sensors adopted by iPhone devices hit a high of US$60 as the technology involves substantial efforts in the development of software, hardware, and system integration, significantly pushing up smartphone costs. This has dampened the willingness of China smartphone vendors to incorporate 3D face recognition modules into their devices dedicated for international markets. http://www.hardocp.com/news/2018/03/...rint_scanners/ |
