Default AMD Accelerates Performance of Turion 64 Chips

Advanced Micro Devices on Monday revealed two new AMD Turion 64 models in a bid to offer better performance than arch-rival Intel Corp. provides with its Intel Centrino mobile platform. The new Turion 64 chips have been already utilized by VoodooPC computer maker for its notebooks aimed at gamers.

The new AMD Turion 64 processors are models MT-37 and MT-40. The chips are designed to fit into 754-pin infrastructure with 800MHz HyperTransport bus speed, are equipped with either 1MB or 512KB of level-two cache and have built-in single-channel DDR memory controller supporting PC1600, PC2100, PC2700 or PC3200 DDR SDRAM. Additionally, the chips feature PowerNow! energy saving technology with C3 Deeper Sleep state that reduces power consumption during idle moments as well as 3DNow!, SSE, SSE2 and SSE3 instructions. Like all AMD Athlon 64 processors, the Turion 64 supports 64-bit capability in addition to Enhanced Virus Protection technology.

Advanced Micro Devices did not disclose clock-speeds of the new chips, but they are likely to be 2.0GHz – 2.20GHz. AMD Turion 64 MT-series processors have thermal design power of 25W.

AMD Turion 64 microprocessors MT-40 and MT-37 are priced at $359 and $268, respectively, in 1000-unit quantities.

The first notebooks based on the latest AMD Turion 64 mobile technology MT-40 and MT-37 can be ordered now from VoodooPC’s web site, and they are expected to be available for delivery soon throughout North America.

“Featuring ultra-thin personalized designs, the ENVY Middleweight a:538 and ENVY Featherweight a:228 are two of our sexiest gaming notebooks,” said Rahul Sood, president and chief technology officer of VoodooPC. “The match-up of our exclusive design capability and AMD’s latest 64-bit mobile technology gives us an edge to deliver highly mobile gaming performance, quiet operation and ultimate style.”
