Default PVR recording software?

Just got my Hauppauge PVR150 in, installed it fine with window xp MCE and I can watch and capture cable tv fine but I specifically want to be able to record video from a VCR using the composite inputs then edit it. Tried winTV from hauppauge site but just get an error when I try to open it and a friend says it's no good anyway.

any help would be appreciated

-Ray
