| gotta luv A7N8X-Deluxe CPU overheat protection I've put my V7+ on my CPU this early morning. checked it was mounted ok I've booted the machine, the fan didn't turn on. whoops, I've forgot it. now you're going to think: uhu, the HS got too hot and then the PC was shut down. NOT. it was a loud delta fan so I noticed it immediately. I bent over so I could grab the fan connector and connect it, because I couldn't see it (the wire was behind the heatsink, I couldn't see it) the fan connector got UNDER the heatsink. my first reaction was OMFG NOOO.... even before my hand got to the power switch, the machine shut off itself I removed the HS and as I've thought immediately, the fan connector prevented the HS from touching the core. I got really pissed off, but there was no burning mark on the CPU. so with my shaking hands I've put the HS back on it and turned on the PC... I've never been so happy to see the LED of my screen to go from orange (standby) to green (on). it's pretty amazing the CPU booted and it's still working now... praise Asus for their COP |

| Nice to know, I have the same mobo, is the COP always on or do you need to enable it in the bios?

| it's always ON and it's using the DIODE temperature so COP can react very quickly to high temperatures. as in: without heatsink on the CPU it shuts the machine off it takes a socket temperature sensor a lot longer to warm up |

if the CPU gets too hot you still have a thermal shutdown, the PC can make the siren noise or it can just lock up/power off | |

| glad to see something like that work something similar happen to me, though i never found out the true cause in my rush to tear off the volcano 6 when i smelt burning silicon (left imprints of the heatsink fin profile seared into my hand for 5 weeks!!!!) if only the shuttle ak32L's version of it had worked, i would have some different screen name right now, or might not even be browsing a site like this |
