| Fileserver In my quest to upgrade my fileserver I came down to this point: Either A64 with NF3 250Gb or P4 with 875P CSA I'll be needing before juli. The Asus P4C800-E deluxe fills out my intel needs, coupled with a P4 2.4C. The A64 path is less clear. I'll take a good mobo with nice HD connection options, and the cheapest A64 available (S754, 2800+ probably). What would be the best option purely for fileserving (no games, movies or whatever)??? PS for those interested, the NF2 Ultra 400Gb won't be out untill end of juli. |

| the I875 is more tried and tested and you'll be buying a more mature solution. a very good read here btw: http://techreport.com/reviews/2004q2...d/index.x?pg=1 To find out which chipset offers the best single-drive, RAID 0, and RAID 1 performance with Serial ATA drives, I've spent the last month running Intel's ICH5R, NVIDIA's nForce3 250Gb, SiS's SiS964, and VIA's VT8237 through a punishing gauntlet of disk subsystem and application tests. The results of this benchathon are enlightening, to say the least. IOMeter - File server - Transaction rate With our file server test pattern, all the single-drive configurations achieve roughly the same transaction rate with the exception of the nForce3 250Gb. Curiously, the nForce3's transaction rates don't scale up at all as the load increases. Intel's ICH5R scales incredibly well under load, especially with striped arrays. Notice the huge performance benefit to be had from moving from a single drive to a two-drive RAID 1 and the nice performance boost going to RAID 0.
