slow pc Ok, a friend of mine complains about his compu being noticably slower the last few days. especially when working with explorer (not internet explorer). It so happens that I also installed a few programs with him a few days ago: - norton antivirus and internet security - spysweeper - ad aware - firfox - (spybot? not sure if i installed it) I know norton seriously slows down boottime and pc response in general is slower but not as extreme as my friend discribed it. also spysweeper has this memory shield that slowed down internet browsing quite a bit but I tested that on his compu and there was no niticeable difference. I can't remeber if browsing the harddisk was slower with memory shield active... he's going to run the spyware tools tomorrow although I doubt that that 'll be the cause of this sudden sloth. i'm open to suggestions as to what the cause of this problem could be

not 100% sure, but I would think he has at least 512mb ram. the pc is not even half a year old and a another friend put it together for him. I very much doubt that that friend who built the pc would settle for anything less then 512 mb. I'll ask him tonight.

did you fix it? if not run tweak xp and do the memory thing (forget what its called) but it frees up alot of memory. Make sure he doesn't have a windows xp skin theme app installed. I had one installed for a few days and it made my pc crawl to a stop.

I haven't stopped by to see if I could fix it. he confirmed he has 512 mb ram. I suppose he'll have to automatically run tweak xp at boot up or he'll loose the effect of it no?
