Default hdd: ATA device: current mode not optimal

got an old maxtor 80gb d740x installed, and while checking settings in sisoft sandra the performance wizard says current mode not optimal, but after checking those setting in device manager, primary ide channel, device 1 says udma mode 5, but for some reason it detects the hdd as device1 while it should be device0. any idea how this can be solved?
