Ok this is what i wanna know i want the best stuff for overclocking my computer these r my specs atm (not the 100% best for overclocking)

Intel 3.06GHz HT @ 3.58GHz multiplier 15.0x 259 FSB 1.6V stable 60C load (mobo's next volt is 1.68 and then i get Vcore fail :@)
Gigabyte GA - 8IPE1000P-G
2x 512mb DDR 3200 + 1x 256mb DDR PC3200 (cheap ram dunno brands lol)
GeforceXFX 5200 128mb (very bad with a random fan I had 2 put on cause i burn myself once touching it)
Coolermaster Jet 4 CPU cooler (with box around it to only take out side air)
1x 80Gb maxtor 1x 30Gb maxtor both IDE 7200rpm
dvd+rw
Q-tec 450W
all packaged into a good looking chieftec server case







Ok thats my spec im a very good PC builder i can model cases too e.g. cut windows front fans etc but im not good at picking expensive things out lol i just buy whats ever cheap lol.

So can some ppl point me in the right direction on what i should get for Overclocking im willing to get watercooling aslong as it will do some good but 1 main thing i want is a ATI 9800 pro 128mb, a X800 256mb or a Geforce 6800GT. I would like 2 keep some things e.g. CPU as ive heard ppl can get their's up to 4.5GHz and that would be great i dont think ill be needing more processing power then that lol. Ok so that would be great if some ppl could tell me what u get :P

HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X850 XT PE ICEQII 256MB DDR3 VIVO TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (RX850XTPE-AGPVICEQ) (GX-033-HT) £319.95 --> most expensive one from the list but HIS has a good name, X850 is slightly more performant then X800, due to the better PCB design it doesn't have the hotspots the X800 did and those coolers will averigely keep your gpu 10°C cooler, your rams cooler and they are a LOT more quit then the stock ati coolers so in my humble opinion this thing is worth it's price.

it has a separate 12V rail for the cpu unlike the 470 and 520.

your qtec may already be hampering your overclock. your voltage problem is in my humble opinion due to the psu or the motherboard. if that's the case, this psu will give you a slighty higher stable overclock anyway but if your current psu is holding you back, you will see a higher overlcock all toghether. also, with the x800, a beefier quality psu will prove usefull.


if your motherboard is holding you back, that'll mean it's going to cost you a fair share more then 500£. In that case i'd get a board from the abit ic7 family the asus p4c800 family or a dfi lanparty.

thanks for that mate but with the mobo will its abit over £500 lol and do u think my coolermaster jet 4 can cool upto 4GHz (my target) when with the settings atm it get up to 64C with 100% load

no, I very much doubt you will be seeing anything near 4Ghz on air. As I said, that requires a bad *** single stage or a cascade and a good proc. It's already getting warmer then I would have it go if it were mine. those temps i could live with for a quick benchie but not for 24/7 use. also the jet 4 is not exactly a performance heatsink.

good prefab watercooling will easely set you back ~150£ perhaps a little cheaper with just a cpu coolblock. but if you go much cheaper you will eather get poor performance or you would have to go for a selfmade setup (car radiator and such).

top end aircooling I would estimate at about 50£. thermalright XP-90c with a vantec tornado


*edit* I don't mean it's impossible to get 4GHz on air, your proc seems to do pretty well, 3.6 on air is pretty darn good I just think it's very unlikely...

Yeah ive been looking around for water cooling taken a pass on things like the "Thermaltake Big Water" which would proable leak lol also the kit i would get would have 2 have some power inside because of the full tower case i hait would have 2 get water from the top of my case to the bottom.... Also i would like 2 just get a 120mm radiator as there is a place ready and waiting for it. ive been looking at these kits :

But the Danger Den MAZE4 POWER Kit comes with a 35L pump for $201.99 which converted is £106!!! and i could buy a chipset and VGA blocks aswell and it would be under £200

But guess what, i dont seem to be able 2 get it delivered to the UK so i cant get it. Well not from that site at least....

Also i would like to say that i dont think my mobo can keep the CPU stable very well even tho at idle its only 47C, so thats why i have to have the voltage at 1.6v and i think (not too sure) i seen a max CPU power at 3.6GHz but i have had my computer runnning at 3.75 for 24hours running tests. So a new mobo could get this all abit cooler, more stable at a lower voltage and more Mhz out of it :P.

I recommend a 6600GT, or a 6800LE or NU and unlock the pipes and shaders.

Watch out with that Q tec PSU they have quite low 12v rails and it might not be enough when u upgrade.

Im not too sure about getting another NVIDIA product as my 5200 has been a really pain in the ***, iam also aware of the Q-tec's problems, (but it was only £15 :P) i also think its making my computer turn on 10secs later after shut down. I quite like the idea of the OCZ PowerStream 600w but i think £120 is too much of my budget and so i think i will go for the 520w which is about £30 cheaper. I really want a new mobo, PSU and graphics card those are the main things but i would also like to get water cooling or ram. Which would be better for hitting the 4GHz mark?
