| Help pls to OC an +2800xp Hello, I wondered if i could ask some questions about oc'ing an AMD Athlon 2800+XP. I've already read dozens of papers about oc, and i think i understand the issues. But when i put it into practice i seem to fail. Who would be so kind to lend me a hand? mobo ASUS A7N8x-x rev 2.0 bios 1010 Barton 2800+XP stepping AQUCA 0326 SPAW Artic Coppersilent 2 2x512Mb DDRRam TwinMOS PC-400 cl2.5 So, for example, when i change my settings to 200*11, which should be 2200 (3200+XP), it boots as an 2500+ with speed 1,84 Ghz. Why isn't it seen as an +3200??? And when i boot with settings 200*12.5, it boots as normal as an 2800+ and speed 2.084 Mhz. Why doesn't the speed change? Is there something i'm missing? Am i doing something wrong? Thank's alot for helping me out ! greetz, |

| 1.your cooling is very weak... the arctic coppersilent2 has limited power in overclocking conditions so probably you won't be able to overclock your cpu far, if even at all... 2.the fact that it boots at 1.84 ghz when you choose multiplier 11 is probably because it goes to 11*166 =+-1840... It sure as hell won't run 12.5*200 = 2500 with this kind of cooling, so it reverts to it original state being 166*12.5=2083. if you really want to overclock, you should 1. try it with 2 fsb at a time at default multiplier (12.5*168, 12.5*170) and test it with prime for 10 minutes, when it crashes prime, go back 1 mhz and test it for at least an hour, till it's stable, this way you'll find your max cpu speed, make sure you take LOW timings for this process, you want to be sure it's the cpu that's freaking out, not the ram, that's the first test, when you found max stable cpuspeed like this, come back here and report that with stressed temperatures., then we can try to go further. 2. get more powerfull cpucooling, coz you ain't gonna get far with acs2, you cannot raise Vcore with this kind of cooling, and ocing an athlon almost always needs lots of vcore...

| Thx for the explanation. I'll try it and test it. But what kind of Air cooling do you suggest? What brand? greetz, |

| thermalright xp120 + 120 mm fan it'll be just as silent as yours, but it will be very very performant, please check if it fits your mobo first. check out JMke's review.

| ok, thx again. Now i've tried to set it at 168*12.5, but this won't work. It will boot, i can acces windows, but when i check CPU-Z, it still says 166*12.5. This is what i'm talking about. It seems ican put the fsb where i want, the PC does't respond to it. The multiplier works, but the fsb doesn't. Is the cooling causing this problem? Greetz, |

| Multi is locked for AXP for quite some time; the only way to OC is by increasing FSB, i.e. you might change the multi but it won't do anything. [M] version review on 2L is coming. Quite acceptable.

If i change my mp to 11, it recognizes an 2500, 11.5 an 2600, 12 an 2700 and 12.5 an 2800. So this is OK. But the changes i make with my fsb don't seem to apply. What could be the problem there? greetz,

| My guess is it's bios related. Best to check on the asus forums to verify (and find out what bios rev would help you out). |

| Use CPUZ or MBM5 to verify your processor speed; not in terms of PR rating; but in mhz.

But in my case, they don't. So is it like CALANTAK says, that my cooling is worth ****, and it locks up as soon as i try to OC?thermalright xp120 + 120 mm fan By the way, the " thermalright xp120 + 120 mm fan " isn't suitable for my mobo. Any more suggestions for an great cooler for my CPU? greetz,
