Default Overclocking and WindowsXP x64 Edition

When one overclocks in the 32-bit world, we expect higher results. After all, a faster computer should lead to faster processing no matter the application, right? The next logical question is whether benchmarks would see similar results in a 64-bit computing environment? PCStats thought it would be interesting to see how overclocking is affected on the WindowsXP x64 Edition platform by illustrating both 32-bit and 64-bit benchmarks for an AMD Athlon64 4000+ based system. Would the test platform be stable enough to overclock successfully? Would WindowsXP x64 Edition require a more stable processor than its 32-bit counterpart does?

are you serious? this is a pointless article in my humble opinion, here are some surprising quotes

"we see similar overclocking results for both 32-bit and 62-bit operating systems.

Overclocking to the same speed produces similar results on both platforms here.

it's nice to see that the overclocking results from both platforms are similar.

and here we see similar results for both 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems

When the system is overclocked, both platforms experience similar performance boost due to overclocking,

Overclocking results are similar on both operating systems, which should be great news for enthusiasts who want to stay with cutting-edge software

In general, we see similar numbers when overclocking in both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows.

The numbers are again very similar on both WindowsXP x64 Edition and WindowsXP platforms."

aah finally; 7 pages later some interesting bits, all the other pages are redundant

"The first thing we noticed when testing in the 64-bit world was that the test system could not overclock as high as when it was using the 32-bit version of WindowsXP. With the 32-bit OS, the AMD Athlon64 4000+ processor could overclock as high as 2.72 GHz (Prime95 stable). When WindowsXP x64 Edition was installed, the system would only run stable at an overclocked speed of 2.64 GHz. We're not sure where the limitation is... perhaps 64-bit registers require something more stable than even Prime95 can detect."
