| Noctua presents NF-R8 fan Vianna, October 24th 2006 - After the successful introduction of the NF-S12 in August, Noctua expands its range of premium quality fans with the NF-R8 80mm fan. Like the NF-S12, the NF-R8 employs a novel rotor developed by the Austrian Institute for Heat-Transmission and Fan Technology (Österreichisches Institut für Wärmeübertragung und Ventilatorentechnik, ÖIWV). Thanks to the special optimisation of the blade geometry towards ultra low noise application and Noctua's magnetically centred, self lubricating oil-pressure bearing (SSO bearing), the NF-R8 is up to 10% quieter than other high-end fans at the same flow rate. [attachment] "Many satisfied NF-S12 users have asked us whether there is an 80mm fan with similar qualities", reports Mag. Roland Mossig, Noctua CEO, "After more than two years of development, we are extremely happy to be able to provide an innovative top-quality product in the 80mm range too!" The NF-S12 120mm fan introduced in August has earned more then 20 awards and recommendations from leading international websites and magazines. Like the NF-S12, the NF-R8 employs a novel rotor developed by the Austrian Institute for Heat-Transmission and Fan Technology (Österreichisches Institut für Wärmeübertragung und Ventilatorentechnik, ÖIWV). Its Raised-Blade-Design provides a significant boost in efficiency compared to conventional rotors at low rotation speeds. "In order to make their products more silent, fan manufacturers usually simply reduce RPM without adapting the rotor design to the modified fluid dynamic parameters", explains Mag. Manfred Stadler MBA of the Austrian Institute for Heat-Transmission and Fan Technology. "Using a blade geometry specifically optimised for lower speed ranges like the Noctua Raised-Blade-Design allows for much better performance than simply reducing RPM." Running at 1800rpm, the NF-R8 provides a flow rate of 53m³/h at a noise level of only 17dB(A). Using the supplied Ultra-Low-Noise adaptor, the noise level can be reduced below 7dB(A)*. Like the NF-S12, the NF-R8 is equipped with a magnetically centred, self lubricating oil-pressure bearing (SSO bearing) that surpasses current types of ball-, sleeve- and liquid bearings in long-term stability and quietness thanks to its new, improved principle of operation. The NF-R8 has a MTBF of over 150.000h and comes with 6 years warranty. The scope of delivery of the NF-R8 includes a Low-Noise-Adaptor (L.N.A.) and an Ultra-Low-Noise adaptor (U.L.N.A.) that allow for a further reduction in noise emission, 4 vibration compensators for vibration-free installation as well as a 3:4 pin adaptor and 4 fan screws. Technical specifications Detailed data, photos and background information on the Noctua Raised-Blade-Design and the SSO bearing can be found at www.noctua.at. Prices and availability The NF-R8 fans will be available by November. The recommended retail price is EUR 14.90 /USD 18.90.
