While Apple is still faffing about with its iCar, its Chinese nemesis Xiaomi has launched its first electric motor.

The gadget giant, which makes everything from phones to scooters, has joined the race to dominate the booming EV market.

Xiaomi's boss Lei Jun unveiled the sleek SU7, a four-door saloon that will hit the roads in 2025.

The car is packed with Xiaomi's software, which lets you control all your devices from the dashboard.

BAIC, a local carmaker that produces Mercedes-Benz models in China, will make it.

Lei said his ambition was to become one of the world's top five carmakers in the next two decades.

The SU7 will run on batteries from BYD and CATL, two of China's biggest battery makers.
