Asus A8V revision 2.0: Exploring Max HTT Adventure

Motherboards/AMD S939 by JNav89GT @ 2004-09-20

The purpose of this article is to explore the limits of the Hyper transport bus (HTT) on this retail board. The HTT is the speed at which the cpu communicates with the motherboard, while different than a traditional Front Side Bus (FSB) that many of use as a common term, a higher HTT speed will increase overall performance much the same way and is the reason that people have sought to overclock their P3/P4, Athlon, and Athlon XP CPUs by raising their FSB to highest max stable

The box design has changed from version 1.0 and 1.02. Gone is the predominant green coloration and the Wi-Fi advertisement. In fact one of the distinguishing features of the 2.0 board is the lack of Wi-Fi. So look for a non-Wi-Fi board to get 2.0.

The board is the standard A8V layout; I cannot determine any differences on gross observation. Accessories are standard. You get 2* SATA cables, Black Asus labeled 80pin IDE cable and black floppy cable. I/O plate, Game port/USB plate, Fire Wire plate, and 2* Molex to SATA power cable adapters. Driver CD, Manual, and Win DVD are included as well. Pretty standard fare for any modern motherboard. Some might be disappointed that Asus no longer includes a Wi-Fi wireless network card with this motherboard, but the good news is retail prices are about $10-20 less than an older Wi-Fi board. Specs can be found here.
