AC Ryan Backy Review

Modding/Small Mods by A-star @ 2004-08-31

Internal connectors on the outside? Not problem with a Backy. If you were thinking of something dirty, you're way off. This is a new product from the modding company A.C. Ryan.

The A.C.Ryan Backy™

Most of you who modify their cases want to have plug and play access to those 12v connectors, either for adding a nice CCFL to the underside to have a "street glow" effect or connecting an external LCD display, or just maybe to hook up a 80mm fan for some personal cooling.

Either way, until now you had the choice to either cut a whole in your case to pass through a lengthy cable (if your PSU has them). So here we are with one of A.C.Ryan's new line of products specially made for modders out there: A.C.Ryan Backy™

It consists of a modified PCI-cover with several connections stuck through it, they have for example one with an IDE connector on it so you can easily connect a hard drive and to transfer data quickly without having to open your case!

The one we in our labs today is the Backy™ Combo, UVBlue.

As you can see it contains two Molex and two 3-pin fan connectors. They made sure that every wire is covered in a nice sleeve creating a nice professional look. And under a UV-CCFL it really shine:

All in all this is an interesting product, especially for reviewing, testing and taking modding one step further...I would recommend it to anyone who needs "his internal connectors on the outside" :) . At an estimated retail price of $12 it fits well in most people's budget.

We would like to thank Mike from A.C.Ryan for sending the product our way, check out their site for a truckload of other cool modding gear, including some fancy UV active network cables!
