Silicon Power Marvel Xtreme DS72 1TB USB 3.2 Gen2 Flash Drive Review

Storage/SSD by stefan @ 2024-11-21

The DS72 SSD in a Flash Drive format does offer quite a bit of performance and storage space, especially when purchasing the 1TB or 2TB SKUs. Even with the pSLC cache fully filled, the performance will still hover around 200MB/s and the drive does not get very hot when transferring large amounts of data in a single session.

Packaging, A Closer Look

Another USB SSD Flash Drive has arrived in our test labs, sporting two different interfaces, one on each side for compatibility with a lot of systems. Silicon Power is named this drive DS72 and includes one USB-A on the left side and an USB-C on the right, while the available capacities are 250GB, 500GB, 1TB and 2TB.

The product is shipped inside a simple cardboard/plastic enclosure; Silicon Power also notes on the frontal area the drive capacity along with the rated read/write speeds:

On the back, we will note a small QR code for warranty activation, the product power rating, details on SP’s Worldwide Service Center but also the product code name and serial number:

The drive comes with an aluminum case for allowing heat dissipation, while the flip-cap mechanism is protecting the connectors while not in use. An orifice is present near the SP logo and capacity which allows the red LED to signal activity:

On the back of the DS72, we will see how the protective caps do look like while in closed position:

Here is a closer look at the connectors as well:
