Shuttle XPC slim DS50U7 Barebone Review

Others/All-in-one PC by stefan @ 2024-11-03

The DS50U7 barebone from Shuttle did impress us in terms of performance, considering we are talking about a fanless design. PL1 is limited to 15W, while PL2 is limited to 17W, while in the case of the ECS LIVA Z5 Plus with active cooling and the i5-1335U SoC, we noted PL1 set at 20W and PL2 set at 39W, which is considerably higher; despite that, we see the i7-1355U winning in some cases, due to the implementation of DDR5 memory, higher boost on the iGPU clock, more execution units, but also a higher boost on the CPU, helping quite a bit in low to medium loads, a situation which is frequently found when using the device like 90% of the time.

The BIOS Interface Part I

The DS50U7 ships with a standard looking UEFI interface, the Aptio Setup; we do have the usual menus on the top area of the screen, starting with the Main area; here we can check some details on the BIOS version, EC/ME versions, the GUID, but also the installed processor. From the same section, we can note the quantity of installed RAM, but can adjust the Date/Time as well:

The Advanced area comes with multiple sub-sections:

The TPM Configuration area does allow us the turn the function on or off:

The Power Management Configuration allows working with the usual PM functions, some it being locked:

The CPU Configuration menu does offer more in-depth information regarding the SoC, but we can also work with some CPU-specific options such as enable/disable E-cores, Intel V.T., C State Support, EIST, Intel Speed Shift, Turbo Mode or Intel HT:

The SATA Configuration area does allow the user to pick the SATA controller mode, but will also display the currently connected devices:
