ACER Predator GM7 PCIe 4.0 M.2 4TB SSD Review

Storage/SSD by stefan @ 2024-09-24

The Acer Predator GM7 does perform really well in terms of performance, even if we are not dealing with a DRAM-cached SKU, but one which uses HMB, while the operating temperatures are really good, allowing it to function in systems with less-than-ideal airflow in the drive area such as miniPCs, laptops or the PS5 console.

Conclusive Thoughts

When the pseudoSLC cache is fully filled, the transfer rate did not drop under 600MB/s and often recovered up to 1GB/s even after writing over 2TB of data continuously to it; this is possible thanks to the technology used, but also the drive firmware.

In the HDTune writes workload, we did note a very sudden drop under 400MB/s, due to the drive in pSLC recovery mode, which cuts a bit of performance, but this won’t be visible in regular Windows Explorer transfers:

The Acer Predator GM7 4TB can be currently found online for about 292 Euros and is backed by a 5-year warranty. The TBW is rated at 2400, enough not to worry about data safety.
