Another 2230 SSD has arrived in our test labs, perfectly suitable for portable consoles such as the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, this time coming from BIWIN Storage Technology and sporting the Acer branding, the MA200 Gen4 x4, with a total storage capacity of 1TB. The drive has sequential rated speeds of up to 5000MB/s, while the rated write speeds near 4000MB/s, enough for such small computers when downloading compatible games for it.
Even if we are talking about a small 2230 format SSD, it is shipped in packaging of the same size as a regular 2280. The frontal area of the box does show a photo of the drive, along with the capacity and some main product features:
On the back, we will be informed on the product specifications, but also the product code name and serial number:
The drive is protected inside a transparent plastic mold and along with it we will also receive some documentation:
The Quick Start Guide informs the user on how to perform the actual installation, along with some other technical details:
A fixing screw is also shipped with the product:
On the frontal area of the PCB, we will note a small heat pad containing graphene to help with dissipation; we noted a small portion of the controller is not covered by it:
The back side does not feature extra components, but only a small sticker with the product code name and serial number, but also the drive capacity:
After removing the heat pad, we will note a main controller but also a single NAND IC:
The Silicon Motion SM2269XTF controller is meant for the mainstream segment, is built on 12nm and features two ARM Cortex R8 cores, with 4KB LDPC error correction. It is adopted for DRAMless configurations and uses for caching HMB; in terms of NAND channels, we have 4 channels, with an interface speed of 1600 MT/s and we also have 4 CEs per channel:
The BW29F8T08EULEE is a rebranded version of Micron’s 176-layer TLC NAND (B47R):
