Shuttle XPC slim DL30N Barebone Review

Others/All-in-one PC by stefan @ 2024-07-21

XPC slim DL30N is an entry-level, completely fanless miniPC from Shuttle that does not concentrate on performance, but low power consumption. The Intel N100 is only equipped with E-cores and despite the advertised 3.4 GHz boost clocks, this speed is only available for very short periods of time and when the system is not loaded on all cores; the PL1 Power Limit is set at 6W and for not exceeding this value while all cores are loaded, the speed will decrease even to about 900MHz! The Shuttle cooling system is doing its job great, so we did not see temperatures exceeding 52 degrees Celsius even at highest loads, so we cannot say the lowered clocks are because of throttling.

The BIOS Interface

The DL30N system comes with an UEFI BIOS but sports the standard Aptio Setup interface, so no mouse control here! The Main section will show the current BIOS version and build date, the EC/ME versions, the firmware GUID, installed CPU, system memory but we can also adjust the date and time:

The Advanced area comes with several sub-sections:

The TPM area does only allow us to enable/disable the function:

The Power Management options are next:

From the CPU Configuration menu, we can enable/disable some processor-specific options:

The SATA Configuration is for display only, no options can be configured; here we will note the detected storage devices:

The OnBoard Device Configuration area allows turning interfaces on or off, such as audio, CNVi, LAN and more; we can also set how much RAM should be allocated for the iGPU:

The COM ports can be also enabled or disabled:

The Hardware Health Configuration menu does only show the system temperatures and voltages:

The product SN and UUIDs can be changed:

The Security area does allow changing both Supervisor and User passwords and from here we can enable/disable Secure Boot or Flash Write Protection:

The usual Boot options are next:

Finally, we have the Exit menu, where you can save, discard settings or load defaults:
