Shuttle XPC slim DL30N Barebone Review

Others/All-in-one PC by stefan @ 2024-07-21

XPC slim DL30N is an entry-level, completely fanless miniPC from Shuttle that does not concentrate on performance, but low power consumption. The Intel N100 is only equipped with E-cores and despite the advertised 3.4 GHz boost clocks, this speed is only available for very short periods of time and when the system is not loaded on all cores; the PL1 Power Limit is set at 6W and for not exceeding this value while all cores are loaded, the speed will decrease even to about 900MHz! The Shuttle cooling system is doing its job great, so we did not see temperatures exceeding 52 degrees Celsius even at highest loads, so we cannot say the lowered clocks are because of throttling.

A Closer Look Part III

By removing two screws, we can access the interior; the design is familiar, with a tray for a 2.5’’ HDD or SSD, but also a large heatsink to cool the N100 SoC:

The 2.5’’ HDD/SSD tray can be removed with a single small screw:

A single SODIMM (262-pin) slot is available for accommodating a DDR5 memory module:

For storage, the barebone does support M.2 2280, 2260 or 2242 sizes, with PCIe X2 and SATA supported standards:

The M.2-2230E slot does support other cards such as the WLN-M1 for BT and Wireless connectivity options:

The GL3523 from Genesys is a 4-port, low-power and configurable hub controller, compliant with the USB 3.1 Gen 1 specifications:

The Winbond 25Q236JVE is the UEFI NOR Flash 256M-bit chip:

The ITE IT5571E-128 is the SuperIO chip on this motherboard:

The ITE Tech IT66318FN HDMI 2.0 (6Gbps) Retiming Buffer can be found nearby:
