Shuttle XPC slim DL30N Barebone Review

Others/All-in-one PC by stefan @ 2024-07-21

XPC slim DL30N is an entry-level, completely fanless miniPC from Shuttle that does not concentrate on performance, but low power consumption. The Intel N100 is only equipped with E-cores and despite the advertised 3.4 GHz boost clocks, this speed is only available for very short periods of time and when the system is not loaded on all cores; the PL1 Power Limit is set at 6W and for not exceeding this value while all cores are loaded, the speed will decrease even to about 900MHz! The Shuttle cooling system is doing its job great, so we did not see temperatures exceeding 52 degrees Celsius even at highest loads, so we cannot say the lowered clocks are because of throttling.

A Closer Look Part II

The VESA mounts are a good addition for fitting the miniPC behind the display:

Surprisingly, Shuttle is still including installation disks with the products; the DL30N comes with a DVD which includes the drivers and the manual in electronic format:

The power adapter was manufactured by Asian Power Devices, hence the APD name; on the front we will also get a power status LED:

On the back, we will note the DA-65C19 code name, along with the power rating on the output, which is 19V at 3.42A, for a total of 64.98W:

The power adapter cable ends up with a jack plug:

As the DL20N series before it, the top metallic cover does have a grey separate area as a design element; this element does not extend to the front on the DL30N:

On the frontal I/O, we will note the microphone and headphone jack ports, the Power and HDD LEDs, the On/Off button but also four USB 3.2 Gen1 ports (max 5 Gbps transfer rate):

The sides are perforated, for allowing air to circulate:

In the back, we do have a 4-pin power-on connector, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 (maximum 5 Gbps transfer rate), a HDMI 2.0b, a DisplayPort 1.4a, a D-Sub/VGA, 2x COM (1x RS422/485) but also 2x RJ45 2.5G LAN ports. The DC-IN is available in the lower right corner, and we will also see two cut-outs for the WiFi antennas:

On the bottom area of the unit, we will note a small sticker with the barebone power rating, four circular rubber feet, but also the product serial number:
