Team Group MP44S 1TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 2230 SSD Review

Storage/SSD by stefan @ 2024-05-19

The Team Group MP44S 1TB drive does offer entry-level to mainstream performance due to the use of QLC 176-layer Micron flash and not TLC, exposing the same weakness we have seen before with other drives as soon as the pSLC has been fully filled, from our estimation a size of about 240GB. While the lowest transfer rate is about 70MB/s, it should be okay in systems such as Steam Deck or ASUS ROG Ally, when used mainly for storing lots of games.

One benefit of the MP44S is that it does not get hot during intensive use, an ideal case when installed in chassis with less-than-ideal cooling systems.

The MP44S does come with a similar pricing to other drives with similar hardware, about 86 Euros. Some may ask why the price is a bit higher when compared to other drives sporting the same capacity, but this is the case with all 2230 form factors, which are priced higher.
