Silicon Power US75 M.2 2280 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD Review

Storage/SSD by stefan @ 2023-12-25

The US75 2TB drive from Silicon Power does use less familiar components, such as the MAXIO MAP1602A 4-channel controller but also the YMTC VSYMT04TA104 232-layer NAND with Xtacking 3.0 technology; this new technology incorporates a 6-plane NAND design which does improve speed and also efficiency. We were quite surprised that the drive can maintain up to 850MB/s writes even after having filled more than half of the capacity, while the drive price is good when compared to the competition.

Packaging, A Closer Look

Silicon Power has released a new PCIe 4.0 SSD series with the US75 code name, sporting read speeds of about 7000MB/s and 6500MB/s writes, which should be plenty for the mainstream to high-end segment. The drives can be purchased with capacities of 500GB, 1TB, 2TB or 4TB and are advertised with a TBW of about 300,600, 1200 and 3000TB.

The product is shipped inside a very slim cardboard/plastic enclosure, allowing the potential client to see how the drive really looks like, instead of a photo. The manufacturer does also list here the rated speeds, along with the warranty period.

On the back, we will note the power rating of the drive, details on Silicon Power service centers but also the product internal code name and its serial number:

The US75 2TB drive does include a large sticker on the frontal area of the PCB, which holds the product serial number:

On the back side of the US75, there are no extra components present:

After removing the top sticker, we will note the main controller and four NAND packages:

While on the Silicon Power UD80 we have had a MAXIO MAP1202 controller, here we have a MAXIO MAP1602A upgraded model from Maxiotek, which is basically a spin-off from JMicron. The controller comes on a 12nm TSMC process fabrication node and sports an ARM Cortex-R5 architecture. The MAP1602A includes four channel and only supports DRAMless builds:

The NAND packages sport the VSYMT04TA104 code name, are manufactured by YMTC and are 232-layer TLC flash with a die size of 68mm2:
