Shuttle XPC slim Barebone DL20N6 Review

Others/All-in-one PC by stefan @ 2021-12-20

The DL20N series from Shuttle is an impressive jump in performance versus the older DL10J, while the choice to have installed a Pentium N6005 4-core SKU while retaining the 10W TDP is great! The whole system is passively cooled, so it is virtually noiseless if we do install only SSDs as storage devices. We have found that using the chassis horizontally is not stellar for the nearby M.2 SSD, because it tends to share a bit of heat from the Intel SoC heatsink, but in vertical position the issue is fully solved so purchasing the vertical stand is a must in our book!

A Closer Look Part II

The power supply can output a total of 39.9W:

The other end of the power cable ends up with a jack plug:

The barebone is very compact, with dimensions of 190 x 165 x 43 mm (LWH) and is approved for 24/7 operation; this holds true if the other components we installed are approved for 24/7 as well:

In the front, we do have the microphone jack, the headphone jack, the LED indicators for Power and storage activity, the Power button, a SD Card reader but also two red USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports:

Both left and right sides do feature ventilation grills but also Kensington lock ports:

In the back, we do have perforations for the optional wireless antennas, a 4-pin connector which can act as an external power button, a Clear CMOS button or for supplying 5V DC voltage, two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, a DisplayPort 1.4a, a HDMI 2.0b, a VGA port, a COM1 port which supports RS232/RS422/RS485 and a COM2 port which supports RS232, a RJ45 Gigabit LAN port but also a DC-in connector for the power adapter:

On the bottom, we have two small circular rubber feet and a set of stickers:

On the sticker, we will note the power rating but also the product serial number:

The top cover can be lifted off by removing just two back screws; the top layer is split in half due to the 2.5’’ drive mounting mechanism, but plenty of space is left for ventilation purposes:
