The VPN100 NVMe drive from Patriot offers good overall performance, the numbers fluctuating depending how much the drive is filled and how much SLC cache is left from the TLC packages. In ATTO we got quite close to the rated speeds, with the drive blank but also filled over 50% with data, while the included heatsink keeps the overall assembly temperatures at bay, in order to avoid throttling or shorten the product life. Speaking of the drive endurance, the 1TB model comes with 1665 TBW, and also comes with a 3-year warranty!
Speaking of the heatsink, this one is quite tall so installing the drive with this design would be impossible with the supplied sink attached. In case we are dealing with a high-end motherboard that features a large cooling plate for the M.2 drives, we can remove the supplied heatsink and perform the installation. This SSD was clearly thought for motherboards that do not come with any cooling system in the M.2 area, as was the case with out test motherboard, which is the Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Ultra Gaming.
The drive is available with capacities up to 2TB, which is great considering that many of todays’ AAA games need more than 100GB of free space.
The 1TB drive, as tested, can be found online for about 132 Euros.
