ROCCAT Kova Gaming Mouse Review

Others/Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2016-03-01

The new ROCCAT Kova reincarnation has been upgraded quite a bit by featuring a more comfortable shape, the top cover finish from the Nyth is also found here, an upgraded sensor with overdrive functionality thanks to the included 32-bit ARM processor but it is also paired with a powerful modular configuration software, the SWARM. The integration with Alienware technology does bring a bit of extra eye candy to the product so Kova can react to different game titles which support this feature or keyboard/mouse combos compatible with SWARM can talk one with the other in order to get similar lighting setups (remember RAZER Chroma?).

ROCCAT SWARM Part I

Nowadays most gaming-peripheral manufacturers are supplying their products with modular software and ROCCAT is now doing the same with their SWARM. In order to access the extra functionality modes of the Kova, we will have to install the specific module inside the SWARM:

After the download has been completed, the module will install itself automatically and the customized GUI for this module will appear right away. The top area of the GUI does show the connected devices along with other supported technologies (ALIENFX, TALK FX) and the first menu section does only show the areas we do usually modify, for easy access. To have a specific menu area show up here, we will only have to press the small pin pictogram; further down we will get to see the current Game Profiles, the Profile Manager but also the Macro Manager:

The next menu is the Settings area, where we can define the vertical scroll speed, the horizontal tilt speed, the double click speed, access the DPI switcher, but also adjust the Windows pointer speed:

Next we do have Button Assignment, with both Standard Buttons and Easy-Shift[+] function, which practically doubles the number of mappings:

Here are the functions we can assign to each programmable button:

Macros (a few are pre-defined)

Hotkeys
