Mad Catz S.T.R.I.K.E. M Wireless Keyboard Review

Others/Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2016-01-24

S.T.R.I.K.E. M is a cool looking mobile keyboard which features smaller than usual keys, meaning that some time is needed to get accustomed with. While the product connects to the devices via Bluetooth technology, we do have one device cycle button for jumping from one device to another in just a couple of seconds, without the need of additional configurations of software. Multimedia keys are fitted on the top left side and quite a bit of functions like ESC and F-keys are accessible while working with the Fn key. For even better flexibility, we can see one OFN (Optical Finger Navigation) button on the top right side, which is accompanied by the mouse left/right buttons; an extra set of mouse buttons is also available on the left, which helps when holding the product in both hands.

A Closer Look Part II

The product is available in Black, Red and White color schemes in order to fit with the other peripherals we own; regarding its shape, it quite resembles an electric guitar without the neck. While in the photo the key caps may appear as having a regular size, in reality they are quite smaller so we would need a bit of time to accommodate with the design. Regarding the switches, we are looking at a scissor-type design, which is often found with mobile platform keyboards:

In the top left corner of the keyboard we do have one volume barrel, some silver multimedia keys but also a LED display. The LED display does accommodate one battery LED, the CAPS LED but also multiple Bluetooth device LEDs:

In the nearest vicinity, we will be able to spot the Bluetooth On/Off button, one Bluetooth device cycle button, one backlight adjustment button but also the left and right click mouse buttons:

In the top right corner, we have got another set of mouse buttons and in the middle we will get to see the OFN sensor; the OFN sensor was added to make navigation and item selection easier for user which cannot access their touch screens. The explanation regarding why we do have two sets of mouse buttons is that the ones which reside around the OFN sensor are best to be used while the keyboard is sitting on a flat surface, while the buttons on the left side are best to be used when the product is held with both hands:

There are no separate function keys with this keyboard, so they have been mapped along with the numeric keys and are meant to activate along with the Fn key:

Some other extra keys can be found along with the Backspace, Enter, arrow keys and so on:

WSAD keys are often used in games and have special carvings around them for an easier identification:

Some additional Windows functions are available on the left side of the Spacebar:

We actually have a separate button with the Mad Catz logo on it nearby which seems to have a “Back” functionality:
