Crucial BX100 250GB SSD Review

Storage/SSD by stefan @ 2015-09-02

With the BX100 we have another very good product for the price which is able to sport very good read speeds and decent writes for the 250GB model, while the 500GB and 1TB versions have even higher rating write speeds. For conserving the costs, the manufacturer has used an aluminum chassis with no screws, but the build is high quality and the internal PCB is kept steady and secure inside. While BX100 does come initially in a 7mm format, we are getting a free spacer with adhesive in order to able to mount it on more systems.

A Closer Look Contd.

On the bottom area of the drive we will also spot the SATA Data and Power connectors:

After quite a bit of effort to dismantle the product without damaging the internals, we could remove the top cover, in order to expose one side of the PCB, which does not seem to have any components soldered to it (since we are not dealing with the model which has the maximum available capacity); despite the lack of screws, the internal PCB is held quite tight to its backplate:

Here is another, closer look of the drive PCB:

If we turn the PCB on the other side, we will be able to spot four NAND packages, the main processor but also the RAM cache:

BX100 is using the Silicon Motion SM2246EN 4-channel flash processor:

The SSD buffer is made by Micron Technology and we have a single D9QNP DDR3 256MB memory chip:

The MLC NAND Flash are manufactured by Micron as well and are built on the 16nm process:
