Crucial BX100 250GB SSD Review

Storage/SSD by stefan @ 2015-09-02

With the BX100 we have another very good product for the price which is able to sport very good read speeds and decent writes for the 250GB model, while the 500GB and 1TB versions have even higher rating write speeds. For conserving the costs, the manufacturer has used an aluminum chassis with no screws, but the build is high quality and the internal PCB is kept steady and secure inside. While BX100 does come initially in a 7mm format, we are getting a free spacer with adhesive in order to able to mount it on more systems.

Packaging, A Closer Look

Crucial is advertising the BX100 SSD product as not one of the fastest drives on the market, but aiming at the cost effective market, so more people would adopt this technology without breaking the bank. BX100 is available with capacities starting from 120GB (which also has the lowest write performance) and ends with the 1TB version, which has advertised the same performances as the 500GB model. The product is shipped inside a compact enclosure, which is sealed on one side; on the top cover of the packaging we will also get to see the model capacity:

If we switch the box to see the back, here Crucial has listed the box contents:

The cardboard enclosure has a different styling than OCZ, KingFast and other SSD manufacturers; after lifting the top cover we will be able to spot the main product, which is located inside a plastic mold, but also wrapped inside an anti-static bag:

Besides the BX100, we will also receive one Acronis True Image HD Software Activation Key and a spacer for compatibility purposes:

On the top area of the SSD we will get to see the product logo:

Thanks to its slim 7mm design, it will fit in most systems:

For the BX100, Crucial went with a screw-less design, which means that the top and bottom parts snap together and it’s quite difficult to take apart:
