ASUS today released a Devils Canyon compatible bios for their Z87 ROG board, the Maximus VI Gene. This will probably create a snowball effect with other board manufacturers to officially publish their compatible BIOSes on their previous lineup; nevertheless they will probably wait for the official NDA launch date. Seems ASUS is getting away with it again breaching the Non Disclosure Agreement with Intel. Previously they launched the Z97 pictures and even their boards were hitting the retail shelves weeks before the competition: makes one wonder about the value of still even signing an NDA document!
MAXIMUS VI IMPACT BIOS 1504
Enhance compatibility for new Anniversary Edition and Devil's Canyon CPU.
Note: Must apply the attached BIOS updater tool first before using the new Intel 4th Gen Core processors
The i7-4790K Devils Canyon will be Intel's first socket processor running at 4GHz on all cores, with a Turbo Boost up to 4.4Ghz. While the i5-4690K version is adhering to the 100MHz free upgrade according the Haswell refresh generation, this also implies an increased TDP from 84 to 88W for both K SKUs. However most are applauding the announced TIM overhaul, providing hopefully far lower operating temperatures and more stable overclocks for daily and Extreme overclockers.
