The DS413 NAS from Synology is aimed for the Home to Business Workgroup segment, provides good read/write speeds in most of the applications and features the highly configurable DSM. DSM supports plenty of additional services, accessible from the GUI, like DHCP, VPN, Syslog, Mail, Antivirus, Backup, Cloud Station and more.

The Synology DSM Software Part IV

The DSM also comes with a File Station (file manager) and with its help we can perform file operations between the NAS and the local computer drives:

 

 

 

Here are some of the operations we can perform by right-clicking on a file:

 

 

 

Inside the Control Panel, we can modify most of the DSM settings concerning the NAS functionality:

 

 

 

Via the Package Center, we can install modules that will make our NAS feature-rich like a mail server, media server, DHCP server, Directory Server, Cloud Station and so on; an antivirus program is also available and besides the Synology-specific modules, we can choose from plenty third-party ones:

 

 

 

After specific modules have been installed, we also have to start them:

 

 

 

The Audio Station application lets us play audio content from inside the NAS or even access online Radio:

 

 

 

 

The Photo Station module looks about the same as on the previous iteration and is easy to use; with it we can organize the photo collections on albums, for easy access, but also run slideshows and many more:
